Grandpa portman

Grandpa Portman was the most fascinating person Jacob knew. He had lived in an orphanage, fought in wars, crossed oceans by steamship and deserts on horseback, performed in circuses, knew everything about guns and self-defense and surviving in the wilderness, and spoke at least three languages that weren’t English.  He likes to tell secrets that could only be entrusted by Jacob (his grandson). " 'What kind of monsters?” I’d ask, wide-eyed. It became a sort of routine. “Awful

hunched-over ones with rotting skin and black eyes,' he’d say."(page 7)

But later he was killed by a hollow. (Dr.Golan) No one understands why. Grandpa Abe is an important character because he is the one who insured Jacob to go to Wales and find more about his past. Abe went to the loop that was ran by Ms. Peregrin when he was young, the same one that Jacob finds. He stayed there for most of the war but then left to fight in it. After the war was over he didn't go back to the loop to live with the peculiar children but when to America to start a new life.

About

Jacob portman

Jacob is the main character, the story is told by him, he is 16 years old and trying to find out the meaning of his grandfathers last words.

Jacob doesn't have many friends and keeps most of his thoughts to himself. His life was mostly surrounded by his grandfather and his stories. He also works at a store called Smart Aid, where Jacob's uncle owned every one of them. "Shelly's face turned the color of ripe pomegranate. She should've fired me on the spot, but I knew I'd never be so lucky. I'd been trying to get fired from smart Aid all summer, and it had proved next to impossible." (page 25)

When grandpa died, he insisted on traveling to

Wales, claiming on this can help him to recover.

Jacob realized something went wrong: grandpa

didn't die because of accident. A "monster" killed

him on purpose. He decided he is destined to find

the past of his grandfather's life. Even Jacob was

still unsure whether he might find the answer or not.

After finding the old orphanage and the loop, Jacob encounters his grandfathers friends, and finds out all their powers, and that all the stories from his grandfather were true. He discovered many secrets about grandpa's past lives. Jacob knew he has a peculiar power, he just didn't know what power it is.

Later on, Jacob decided he's going to leave his family behind, and protect his friends-the peculiar children and Miss Peregrine. He believed he belongs here, with all the peculiars. Also there's not point going back: parents still think he's a psycopath, no one in the real life will know the secrets anymore. He can't risk putting all his friends in danger. Groups of hollows wanted to kill & eat them. And they can't kill each one of them. The surviving peculiars need to stop the wights from taking all the ymbrynes away. Otherwise the wights will force them to re-create the reaction that made the hollows in the first place-only bigger. Much bigger.

Jacob is a very brave person. He has the bravery to left everything he had behind. His parents, his old house, his old friends, old school... Everything is gone now. There's no taken-back. Jacob didn't even care if everyone else in his family think he's crazy. Franklin (Jacob's father) at the last moment still thought he was dreaming about Jacob's peculiar friends. But that doesn't matter.

Jacob is brave enough to leave a mystery behind him without explaining. He is brave enough to leave like a shadow, take risk for his friends.

This is bravery. And Jacob has this ability to conquer anything. The most important of all, he has the ability to let go.

Future awaits.
